Security is one of their top priorities, so when Heartbleed was discovered and began to impact older web browsers they had developed, it was important to them to educate consumers on the benefits of upgrading to the latest, most secure version. Internet Explorer is widely used, which meant the graphic would need to clearly communicate the dangers of using legacy software across all demographics and experience levels – from IT personnel to the average consumer.
To help Microsoft maintain trust and capture the attention of their diverse consumer base, this graphic leverages humor and common sense that relates well to all demographics. By using colors that recall Internet Explorer, the source of the information remains clear and credible. The simple step-by-step conclusion propels users to take action. This long scrolling infographic was accompanied by thumbnails for social media to maintain their visual appeal across formats, and was translated into 4 languages for a global reach.
