The Client Goal

As the leader in online tax prep software, TurboTax aims to help consumers maximize their tax refund by finding as many deductions as possible, aiding in identifying exemptions, and double-checking tax returns. In order to provide even further guidance to their consumers, TurboTax approached us to create interactive content across a series of calculators, each focused on tax credits for education or dependents. The objective was to educate viewers while also enticing them to sign up for TurboTax software by offering a quick resource for clarifying potential exemptions.

The Solution

Keeping in mind the simple color palette and iconography that drives the TurboTax brand, we developed interactive designs that offer insight in as few steps as possible. The dependents calculator asks a series of qualifying questions regarding the age of, and income provided to, the dependents the user intends to claim, while the education calculator focuses on degree type and student loan interest paid. Upon completion, users are given an estimate of their deduction, or informed that they do not qualify, before being invited to try TurboTax software. In doing this, we helped TurboTax promote their products by proving their expertise instead of delivering a hard sell.
