The Client Goal
Since 2013, we have partnered with Geekwire to produce an opening video for their annual event: the Geekwire Awards. In years past, the motion graphics have focused on showcasing Seattle’s growing tech scene to inspire pride in the community, but in 2016 the team at Geekwire wanted to take things up a level. They wanted to tell a story that wouldn’t just build up the Northwest tech community, but would empower women in the industry.
Inspired by past female Geekwire Awards winners, we developed a story that combined technology with Seattle’s innovative health sector. The motion graphic opens on a child named Allison, who loses a loved one to cancer in 2016. Growing up with technology in a way only today’s younger generations will experience, she takes an interest in genetics in hopes of finding a cure. Due to the serious tone, we chose a cinematic approach to both the design style subtle camera movements. Transitions are used to bring the audience from one year to the next. The entire motion graphic is scored to build to a powerful crescendo, showing how Allison’s past loss helped her find the founder within. View our behind the scenes work on this project here.
