
The Client Goal
Marguerite Casey Foundation helps low-income families strengthen their voice and mobilize their communities in order to achieve a more just and equitable society. For the second year in a row, they came to us with a request for a fresh take on their Impact Assessment Report, an annual snapshot of the foundation’s work. The report needed to present a large amount of data in an eye-catching way, and while it needed to incorporate the foundation’s brand and pull some elements from the previous year, it also had to be distinct and unique.
The Solution
To build on the success of the previous year’s report, we kept what worked: a grid-like layout, simple color palette, and sharp data visualization. At the same time, we didn’t want to repeat ourselves, so we developed an engaging design style that uses texture and subtle shading to bolster visual appeal. We also worked closely with the Marguerite Casey team to come up with a front-page illustration that was more metaphorical than anything in the previous year’s report. This balance of old and new allowed us to innovate without needlessly reinventing the wheel.
