The Client Goal
GeekWire is a Seattle-based technology news site. We’ve worked with them on several projects related to the Seattle tech startup scene, including multiple motion graphics for the annual GeekWire Awards. In spring of 2014, they approached us to help refresh a critical component of their brand — their customer-facing media kit. While they already had the content prepared, they needed assistance with organization, layout, and design to help their story and their expertise shine. They wanted a solution that would marry typography with photos, icons, data visualization, and more across the full kit, while remaining unified and on-brand. It also needed to be easily updatable for the GeekWire team to adjust pricing, new statistics, and more without hesitation.
The Solution
We created a media kit that reflects GeekWire’s personality, both through established brand principles and new ideas. The design features photos of the GeekWire team and events, combined with icons, illustrations, and data visualizations all fitting a tech theme. Readers can learn more about GeekWire’s success and explore opportunities to advertise through the company all in one spot. It was important to build an aesthetic that worked within GeekWire’s brand while creating an engaging interface for the information. As the company grows and numbers change, they can quickly go in to change pricing and stats as soon as updates are needed, keeping the existing design relevant for years to come.
