The Client Goal
Dickies makes clothes and accessories for people who do rugged work. They came to us with the idea of adapting the famous “March of Progress” drawing, which illustrates millions of years of human evolution, into a visual piece about the evolution of tools. The infographic design needed to be playful, entertaining, and appealing to a wide audience.
Based on these goals, we created a horizontal piece for web and print. We kept it user-friendly by ensuring the dimensions wouldn’t require horizontal scrolling. The designer placed the character illustrations directly in the middle as a way of drawing the viewer’s eye through, and used a mix of typography and small illustrations to help maintain a balance between the highly graphical top half and the more text-heavy bottom. To maintain brand recognition, we used a palette of Dickies’ bright red, blue, and yellow.
